Look & Feel
Look & Feel
Episode 3 starts off immediately where the last episode finished, with a person of interest on the run. A Crooked Mile is the first episode I have felt had urgency to it, although you do not have any time limits you do get the feel you are against the clock, trying to put the pieces of this gruesome case together.
But as in episode 2 the grit and suspense is not there, in the Walking Dead series I felt that anything can happen at any given time, the wrong choice could be fatal but in this I just don’t get the same rush.
Story & Characters
In this episode you have to piece together clues to find the location to who you believe is the main suspect in the murder case. Just like in the 1st episode you get to choose which location you go to and depending the sequence in which you choose to go to these places different events will happen. My first play through for example I did not get a chance to visit the suspects apartment as I had already gained enough information to find where he was located. I do enjoy the replay value of Telltale games and stuff like this will have you going back for more.
Just like in the previous episodes a few more characters are introduced, this time some more obscure characters that I associate with an urban legend rather than a fairy tale. Character designs again are excellent.
My main issue with this episode is that it’s rather predictable, with only one of the choices I found to surprise me. Maybe its because I have watched to many detective movies, but this episode was quite boring due to how easy it was to work out.
Very little action in this episode also, but without giving away any spoilers the main action scene is a visual delight and is very fun to play. Depending on your choices on this episode a main character can actually be killed. For this series I see this as a huge milestone, after episode 2 I thought they would choose the easy option of having the main characters be fine but I did like this and it now has me believing again that anyone can be killed off.
The investigation mode again is rather easy, with no puzzle solving or thought really required. The dialogue scenes however have removed the feature from the last episode that impressed me, you now can see all choices you can make when talking to someone rather than having them blanked out. This disappointed me as Bigby is meant to be on the edge and not yet in full control of his animal instinct.
A Crooked Mile is slightly longer than the previous episode but not by a lot. I do feel they could have actually merged these two episodes into one and I get the feeling that maybe due to time issues they intended to do this originally? But what this episode does is make your choices actually matter and that gives this episode a ton of replay value.
Although has not reached the heights of the first episode, A Crooked Mile is a significant improvement on the last episode. I did enjoy playing it this time round and am looking forward to the release of episode 4.
