We saw some amazing footage of Devil May Cry 5 at E3 2018. Dante and Nero return in a brand new game set back in the DMC universe we love and will feature their toughest challenge yet! Devil May Cry 5 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC and will be available early in 2019. Here are 5 reasons why I love the look of this game by Capcom.
Below find out the reasons I think this could be one of the best action games of this generation. Plus, this article includes videos, images and some information on the game you might find useful!
Why the focus on Devil May Cry 5? We all picked our favourite Games of E3 2018 (awards here) and this was one of my choices. The team have done more articles like this, check them out in our E3 2018 Hub here.
5The Return of Nero
It’s been 10 years since the last true Devil May Cry, and the last time we saw Nero. DMC4 was the first game he appeared in, but he instantly became a fan favourite and we wanted more of him!
The son of Vergil appears to have lost his demon arm in this game, having it replaced by a robotic arm provided by new character Nico (who I am already in love with). After seeing him come to terms with it and fully accepting it as part of who he is by the end of DMC4, it will be interesting to see how he feels once it’s lost.
His iconic weapon the Red Queen also makes a return which I’m happy to see! Not only that, but Kyrie may make a return also! Nero’s love interest from DMC4, Kyrie was a childhood friend to Nero who became his girlfriend by the end of the game. She was name-dropped in the trailer, so here’s hoping we see her! I loved the relationship between the two (I’m really a hopeless romantic) and I hope to see them together again in DMC5!
4Best of Both Worlds
One thing I really loved about DMC was its music. Say what you want, that soundtrack was bad-ASS and made fighting demons so much more epic. I still listen to my favourite songs from that OST even now!
Devil May Cry 5 has appeared to have combined the old DMC with the reboot DmC, and has all the style and music of the reboot, with the characters and world of the original. What has resulted is so beautiful it brings a tear to my eye.
It all fits so well and has the best of both worlds, literally. I’m looking forward to hearing the new full soundtrack and have it be my new favourite OST! I’ve already been listening to the trailer song ‘Devil Trigger’ on repeat, I am ready for this!
The chronological order of the DMC games is a weird one. It goes DMC3 – DMC1 – DMC4 – DMC2. Dante rode into hell on a motorbike at the end of DMC2, and the final seconds of the DMC5 trailer shows him on said motorbike riding down a road, looking old and literally like the drunk uncle you don’t like to invite to family gatherings.
It makes sense, not only are the games progressing with Dantes life (he is half human after all), in a way I see it as also passing the torch to Nero. He is witty and sarcastic just like Dante (I guess it runs in the family) and has already proved himself worthy of carrying a DMC game.
Back in DMC4, a big chunk of the game had you playing as Dante for a while, so I hope the same happens here and we get to spend some time with our favourite demon hunter.
2Was Vergil also In The Trailer!?
Now, this is more of a theory than a confirmation. The hooded figure who cuts off Nero’s demon arm in the trailer could be Dantes brother and Nero’s father, Vergil!
It makes tons of sense, Vergil always had a lust for power, and the demon arm provides that. If you remember, in DMC4 when Nero’s power awakened, it was an apparition of Vergil’s devil trigger form that stood behind him.
I’ve seen some frame screenshots of the trailer, and it may be wishful thinking, but that face DOES look a lot like Vergil. Here’s hoping he returns, it will be most interesting to see how Dante and Nero will react to this news, especially Dante.
1First Devil May Cry On Xbox One and PS4
Like the rest of you Devil May Cry fans, I have been playing remasters and HD editions for years now. With Devil May Cry 4 coming out all the way back in 2008 (yes, a decade ago!) there has been a long time between the games.
What exactly are we going to see when this new DMC comes to PS4 and Xbox One for the first time?
Obviously, the visuals will be polished. The trailer itself looked really impressive, both in the cinematics and the gameplay mixed together during the E3 reveal. Everything looks super slick and you would expect it running at 4K and at 60frames per second for that full, action game feel.
But what else might the game improve on?
Devil May Cry has always had fun and challenging bosses and distinctive hack and slash gameplay. In recent years, games like Bayonetta and God of War have evolved and improved upon that style albeit in different directions.
I would like to see Devil May Cry 5 deliver that true DMC experience, like the experience I had playing DMC3 for example. But really, I just want DMC5 to be DMC5. I couldn’t ask for more. I just can’t wait to play it!
Will you be getting Devil May Cry 5?
Since you are here, did you like Devil May Cry 5 at E3? If so let me know if you are going to be getting it when it comes out! A simple, “Yes” or “No” in the comments below would be awesome.
