There has been one cool looking RPG from Focus this week showing off some cool gameplay in Shiness and now we get one more. This one is a different animal from developers at Deck 13 but looks equally good as the game heads to PS4, PS4 Pro and Xbox One alongside PC this year. In this latest The Surge Gameplay you get a really good sized portion of action narrated by the developer.

And learn all about severing limbs, something that is clearly worth watching it for alone!

The game is a melee combat focused title that looks really impressive and equally brutal. As you see in the video the world is completely destroyed by a number of events that have rendered the future a dystopian mess (ed: not too unbelievable these days!). You also see more of the combat that focuses on different attack patterns rather than heavy and light strikes.

Instead, go horizontal or vertical and target weak areas of your enemies and chop their limbs off! Nice. Watch the video below and find a lot more details below that down the page along with some more gameplay to watch. Upcoming sci-fi action RPG The Surge today reveals 14 minutes of gameplay with commentary from Deck13 Game Designer Adam Hetenyi. Explore the dystopian environments in CREO’s mysterious industrial and RND complex, the Abandoned Laboratories.

The Surge Gameplay Image 1Fitted with an industrial exoskeleton, you must fight your way through CREO, equipping the spoils of combat to your suit. Armor and weapons are looted from enemies after duels, in which you will take advantage of The Surge’s unique limb-targeting system to attack and cut off parts of the enemy you want to equip or craft.

Targeting a part of the enemy which is armored will deal less damage, but you will earn the opportunity to deal a finishing blow that will cut off the limb in-tact, allowing you to loot the spoils, gain blueprints, and tech-scrap used to level up your exoskeleton.

The Surge features vertical and horizontal attacks, which are used in combination with parries, ducks and jumps as well as a boosted dodge – courtesy of your exoskeleton – culminating in swift, snappy, precise combat situations unlike anything experienced before.

At CREO, you will meet survivors who need help or who can offer assistance. Accepting missions can yield extra rewards, but you will have to balance that against your desire to go deeper into the complex, as the stakes grow ever higher – once dropped, your tech scrap will diminish over time.

Face the dangers of CREO and set your own challenges. Accept missions, learn more about CREO’s history and lore, and fight the various mini-bosses scattered throughout the environment, or play it safe and struggle to survive – it’s up to you.

About The Surge

Set in a heavily dystopian future as Earth nears the end of its life, those who remain in the overpopulated cities must work to survive as social programs become saturated by an ageing population and increasing environmental diseases.

As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years, many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth’s citizens to head out into the suburbs seeking labor, aided by exoskeletons to improve their efficiency.

The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization. The Surge features innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat.
