We saw some amazing footage of Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 2018. The Xbox conference was outstanding throughout but then we got that hack moment right at the end. It was very well done and the perfect title to close on. Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC and hopefully sooner rather than later. Here are 6 reasons why I love the look of this game by CD Projekt Red and can’t wait to play it in full.
Below find out the reasons I think this could be one of the best first-person RPG games we’ve seen below. Plus, this article includes videos, images and some information on the game you might find useful.
Why the focus on Cyberpunk 2077? We all picked our favourite Games of E3 2018 (awards here) and this was one of my choices for the best E3 game. The team have done more articles like this, check them out in our E3 2018 Hub here.
6RPG Meets First Person Shooter
One of the big factors in the new Cyberpunk 2077 is the first-person shooter style gameplay, mixing with that classic action-RPG style the developers are known for. Having seen this world now, and the style of it, I think it suits Cyberpunk perfectly.
It was the safer option for CD Projekt Red to just take then Witcher 3 style of game and layer a cyberpunk world around it all. In fairness, that would probably be an awesome game! But I think they really want to go to the next level with this one.
Making the game more of an RPG shooter suits the style we’ve seen in this trailer. And from what they have been showing behind closed doors, everything is looking good in the first person view.
While a bit of a change. the developers have made it clear that the RPG and narrative comes first is exactly what we wanted to hear. It also seems that choice is going to play a big deal…
5Choices Affecting Your Story and World
One thing that stands out so much from the trailer to me is this living nature of this world. A place where humans, androids and some rather dangerous looking ones all share. It all has that really dark feeling about it, despite the bright colour palette.
This is what makes The Witcher so great, the fact the world isn’t just Good and Evil. It’s actually more a shade of grey with people doing what they feel was best. From what we understand, you will be doing the same here in Cyberpunk 2077.
We are promised we’ll be making some tough choices in the game. Ones that are going to shape our experiences and the world around us. The kind of thing you play a CD Projekt Red game for.
I really can’t wait to see the kinds of choices you make in this title when it comes along, and what those consequences can be. Both for you and this amazing looking city.
4The Stunning Setting of Night City
Speaking of the city, how impressive was the first look at it all as we saw it from the train as the logo appeared on the screen for the first time. Then we see more of it as we pass through some clips showing off flying cars, huge buildings and people everywhere around this busy place called Night City.
The big element here was the variety of typical extremes seen in futuristic cities like in Blade Runner or the excellent Altered Carbon series/novels. Clearly, there is some incredible technology here with androids a big part of society. But the opposite extreme of poverty and oppression was also clear in this trailer.
Everything about this city makes you want to jump right in and play. It’s clear there are some interesting vehicles on show in Cyberpunk 2077 with cars that drive and fly. Hopefully, we get to have fun in both.
As open-world playgrounds go, this looks like one that’s really going to be special. I’m already keen to get my version of “V” out there.
3My Own Character
While Geralt is cool, I mean he’s an iconic games character that so many gamers know and love.
Having said that, I do like to be my own character in RPGs and it’s great to see that this time, the main character is customisable.
No matter what gender or appearance you have in the game, you are called “V”. And this adventure is going to be yours to experience how you want to, making your own choices.
The thing I like most about this is the backstory element. Much like the Mass Effect trilogy, you can be a number of different origins and this has a direct effect on how you are perceived in the game. These have been spoken about by the developers directly and a number of people who have seen the demo from E3.
Being who you want to be, with a past that works for you not only sounds great to play the game through but might also make us return to character creation and replay the game from another perspective.
But the relationships you can make are also of a big interest here.
2Romance and Relationship Options
They are not for everyone but a good bit of in-game romance is always fun. And it’s clear from the developers that there is going to be a fair bit of it in Cyberpunk.
We saw some hints at some rather *cough* fun places to visit in the game in the trailer.
In The Witcher 3, there were lots of romance options but this time we are to expect them to be deeper. This sounds fun to us.
But there are other relationships beyond this and it all comes back to your character and choices. In the game were to expect new gameplay driven conversational choice options which sounds something we want to see more of. And how people react to your character as you go about this world.
One that promises to be a dangerous one, that will really push you to survive in.
1Building Your Abilities for Combat
The danger was one thing that was very clear from the E3 trailer. Cyberpunk 2077 showed off some interesting looking weaponry, car chases and hinted combat will also have some melee elements to it.
Given the game is first-person this time (with no 3rd person mode expected) there is going to be a focus on shooting as you would expect. Some of the weapons there also looked pretty cool. But during E3 we also found out there will be a number of abilities that you’ll be able to unlock and develop.
Digital viruses that you can use interfere with enemy weapons and then there are the “Mantis Blades” from the original reveal trailer that look rather deadly. The developers have promised much more abilities too.
Add to that you choose your own way with a class that you build as you go, rather than get locked into this all seems a very personal. It’s all driven with different “Cyberwear” that starts linear at the beginning but branches into different styles. What you choose will define your class.
Something I personally love to do in games like this!
Even though we only have a few details so far (Full press release here), and nowhere near knowing exactly when it’s arriving. Cyberpunk 2077 really has me ready to get this day one when it does eventually arrive on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Will you be getting Cyberpunk 2077?
